A Little About
Myself.

I was a Relationship & Family Counsellor for 13 years & am fascinated by the psychology & dynamics of relationships, especially relating to the themes of what nurtures closeness or creates distance between people & the ways in which subtle nuances have an impact. I consider my current body of work to be 'Conversation Pieces', creating threads of narrative & meaning beyond the obvious, creating 'shy conversations', the things that are implied or understood without being spoken. I feel that by using androgynous figures, they become a visual exploration of the greater life-themes which are common to all, as such, they are reminiscent of the Medieval concept of 'Everyman', where a character is cast to represent the whole of humanity, a figure with whom we can all find something we can relate to.  This allows us to 'read' into, or project onto, the figures whatever stirs within us a sense of recognition.

My art-books allow me to take the art off the wall, out from behind glass, removing any perceived barriers, or distance, between the object and the viewer.  I particularly enjoy that when someone holds & opens one of my bools, they are experiencing it as I have when I have held & opened it,feeling adds another sensory dimension that makes it so much more intimate & accesable, closing the gap, bringing myself as the artist & the viewer into a much closer relationship through the artwork - I like that.
